Patent Doctoral research work on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is being considered as an intellectual property (at final stage). Current Research (1) Development of Quantum dots for Electroluminescent Devices and Biological Application: II-IV Qdots, CdS:Mn, CdS:Mn/ZnS, ZnS/CdS/ZnS, ZnO, ZnO/MgO, CdSe/SiO2, CdTe, are synthesized using microemulsion, hot-solution and sol-gel processes for solid-state lighting and bioimaging application. CdS:Mn/ZnS Qdots are used as in vivo multimodal bio-imaging material. These Quantum dots show enhanced photoluminescence due to core-shell structure, magnetic moment due to presence of Mn and radio-opacity due to presence of Cd in MRI. The ZnO/MgO core/shell quantum dots are developed for biological application due to lesser toxicity. (2) Solid-State Lighting: Currently working on a solid-state lighting project “High efficiency organic light emitting diode (OLED) with down conversion phosphors” funded by Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Three key issues will be addressed: (1) improvement of the power efficiency of blue emitting devices by incorporating electrical dopants in the charge transporting layers; (2) enhancement of the light out-coupling efficiency with microcavity structures, and (3) down-conversion of blue light to white light with phosphors. My responsibility to this project is to synthesize phosphor materials, characterization of phosphors and production of white light by down-converting blue light. Publications 1. D. Bera, L.
